Dental dams are small, thin, square pieces of latex that are used for oral-vaginal or oral-anal sex. They get their name from their use in dental procedures. However, dental dams that are sold by Condom Depot are much thinner than dental dams used by dentistry practices, many of which are approved specifically by the FDA or EU for use as a safe sex product. While many people refer to these products as dental dam contraceptives, that is a bit of a misnomer as dental dams are used during oral sex to prevent STIs, and are not designed for intercourse.
Why Use Dental Dams?
Even though there is no risk of pregnancy in oral-vaginal or oral-anal sex, using a dental dam contraceptive help to reduce the risk of transmission of STIs during oral sex by acting as a barrier between the mouth and vagina or anus that contain bacteria and viruses.
