Okamoto Condoms — Japanese Quality, Thinner Than Any American Brand

Okamoto Industries has been making condoms in Japan since 1934, and they’re the company behind the world’s thinnest condoms. While their ultra-thin flagships (Okamoto 002 and 003) are sold only in Japan, the Okamoto 004 (0.04mm) is available in the US — and it’s still noticeably thinner than anything Trojan, Durex, or Lifestyles makes.

At Condom Depot we carry the full Okamoto lineup available in North America: Okamoto 004, plus Crown Skinless Skin and WINK (both manufactured by Okamoto). Keep scrolling for our complete Okamoto buying guide.

Why Okamoto Condoms Are Different

Okamoto is a Japanese company founded in 1934, and they've spent 90 years perfecting a single mission: making condoms as thin as physically possible without compromising safety. Okamoto invented the sakless (flat-bottom) rolling technology that makes ultra thin manufacturing possible, and they still produce their own proprietary latex formulation in Japan rather than buying it on the open market.

Where standard American condoms are about 0.07-0.08mm thick, Okamoto's flagship 004 line in the US is 0.04mm — roughly half the thickness of most American condoms. If you've never tried a Japanese condom, the feel is genuinely different: warmer, smoother, and closer to skin-on-skin than anything else readily available in the United States.

A Note on Okamoto 002 and 003

You may have seen references online to the Okamoto 002 (0.02mm — about the thickness of a human hair) and Okamoto 003 (0.03mm). Both hold world records for thinness and are sold throughout Asia. However, neither is FDA-approved for sale in the United States, which means we cannot legally offer them.

The Okamoto 004 is the thinnest Okamoto condom you can legally buy in the US — and it's still dramatically thinner than any American-brand ultra thin condom. If you want the Okamoto feel at the best price point, Crown Skinless Skin (made by Okamoto) is an excellent alternative.

Okamoto Condoms Available at Condom Depot

Okamoto 004 (0.04mm) — The thinnest Okamoto condom legally available in the United States. Premium Japanese latex, precision manufacturing, and a feel that's genuinely closer to nothing than any American-brand condom. The premium option for anyone who wants maximum sensitivity with genuine Japanese quality.

Crown Skinless Skin — Manufactured by Okamoto specifically for the Crown brand and widely considered the best-value ultra thin condom on the market. Smooth, reliably thin, generously lubricated. Often recommended as a first-time "try a Japanese condom" option because it's easier on the wallet than the 004 while still delivering genuine Okamoto quality. Shop Crown →

WINK Condoms — Another Okamoto-manufactured line, available in multiple styles including WINK Jar, WINK Studded, WINK Super XL, WINK Slider, and WINK Closer. WINK gives you Okamoto manufacturing in a range of sizes and textures you won't find in the standard Okamoto lineup. Shop WINK →

Beyond Seven (Legacy) — Beyond Seven was Okamoto's US-branded condom line for many years, but it was discontinued for new production over a decade ago. We occasionally have remaining inventory available, and we keep the product page active for customers searching for the brand. If available, Beyond Seven offers the same Okamoto manufacturing quality as the 004 line.

Okamoto vs. American Condom Brands

The honest comparison:

  • Thinness — Okamoto 004 (0.04mm) is thinner than any major American ultra thin condom (typically 0.05-0.06mm). The feel difference is noticeable.
  • Feel — Most users describe Okamoto as warmer, smoother, and more natural than American latex — partly the thinness, partly Okamoto's proprietary latex.
  • Fit — Okamoto condoms traditionally ran slightly snugger than American brands. Modern lines have improved, but if you're on the larger side, check our 2026 Condom Size Chart for exact measurements before buying.
  • Price — Okamoto 004 costs more per condom than Trojan or Durex. You're paying for genuine manufacturing superiority, not marketing. Crown Skinless Skin and WINK offer Okamoto quality at more accessible prices.
  • Lubrication — Okamoto uses a lighter, less "gooey" lubricant than American brands. Many users prefer this feel; others add their own water-based or silicone-based lube.

Are Okamoto Condoms Safe?

Yes. Every Okamoto product we sell is FDA-approved and meets the same ISO 4074 and ASTM D3492 safety standards as any other brand. Thinner does not mean weaker — Okamoto's manufacturing precision and proprietary latex produce a condom with excellent tensile strength despite the reduced thickness. All Okamoto condoms pass identical electronic testing, burst pressure, and tensile strength requirements.

The one practical note: because Okamoto condoms are thinner, they're slightly less forgiving of incorrect sizing. Make sure you know your size before investing in premium Japanese condoms — a wrong-size 004 is more likely to fail than a wrong-size standard condom.

Okamoto Size Guide

  • Okamoto 004 — Nominal width ~52mm. Slightly snugger than Trojan standard.
  • Crown Skinless Skin — Nominal width ~52mm, length ~185mm. Standard fit.
  • WINK — Multiple sizes; WINK Super XL runs noticeably larger (~56mm+).

If you run on the larger side, WINK Super XL is likely your best Okamoto-family option. For more non-Okamoto choices, see our large condoms category.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Grab a condom sampler pack that includes Okamoto products — our ultra thin samplers typically feature Okamoto 004 alongside other premium thin condoms. That's the cheapest way to experience the Okamoto difference before committing to a full box.

Okamoto Condoms — Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy Okamoto 003 or 002 in the United States?

No. The Okamoto 003 (0.03mm) and Okamoto 002 (0.02mm) are sold only in Japan and are not FDA-approved for sale in the United States. The thinnest Okamoto condom legally available in the US is the Okamoto 004 at 0.04mm — still significantly thinner than any American-brand condom.

What is the thinnest Okamoto condom available at Condom Depot?

The Okamoto 004 at 0.04mm is the thinnest Okamoto condom we can legally sell in the US. It's still about half the thickness of a standard American condom and delivers the classic Okamoto feel — warmer, smoother, and closer to nothing than any mainstream US brand.

Is Crown Skinless Skin really made by Okamoto?

Yes. Crown Skinless Skin is manufactured by Okamoto Industries specifically for the Crown brand. It offers genuine Okamoto manufacturing quality at a more accessible price point than the 004 line, making it one of the best-value ultra thin condoms on the market.

Are WINK condoms also made by Okamoto?

Yes. WINK is another Okamoto-manufactured brand available in multiple styles and sizes including WINK Jar, WINK Studded, WINK Super XL, WINK Slider, and WINK Closer. WINK gives you Okamoto quality across a wider range of shapes and sizes than the standard Okamoto lineup.

Is Beyond Seven still being made?

No. Beyond Seven was Okamoto's US-branded condom line but has been discontinued for new production for over a decade. We occasionally have remaining inventory available and keep the product page active for customers still searching for the brand. When stock is gone, it's gone — but the manufacturing quality is identical to the Okamoto 004 line since both are made by Okamoto.
