As I've previously mentioned, I listen to hip hop. A lot of it. I also advocate safer sex. All the time. So, it's only natural for me to notice that since the 1980’s, hip hop artists have been the pioneers in discussing safer sex with the public.

Not only do they bring up the subject of condoms, they make it entertaining, informative and fun, which is what we are all about here at the Condom Depot Learning Center. These pioneers in STD prevention and awareness and unwanted pregnancy avoidance have my deepest respect.

Trojan brand condoms have capitalized on this prophylactic trend in the rap world, hiring on huge names such as Eminem and Ludacris to promote their Magnum condom. They even held an open to the public hip hop contest in 2010 which offered a $5000 prize to the rap song with the best condom lyrics. Legendary rappers such as Young Jeezy, Chris Brown and Missy Elliot have all included the Magnum name in their lyrics.

Mad love to these lyrical geniuses, these rhythmic wordsmiths and these talented folks who have an admirable social conscience. I only wish other genres of music had such true-to-life lyrics when it comes to the risks of having unprotected sex. Here are my personal favorite hip hop songs which spearheaded the subject of safer sex:

Kool Moe Dee -- Go See The Doctor

Listen to the whole song here >

"As I turned around to receive my injection
I said "Next time I'll use some protection"
If I see another girl and I get an erection
I'm walking in the other direction
Cause I don't want to do the sick sick dance
So I'm keeping my prick inside my pants
And if I see another girl and I know I can rock her
Before I push up I'll make her go see the doctor."

Lil Wayne -- Gonorrhea

Watch the official video here >

"Yeah, I call it how I see you
I wish I never met you, I wouldn't wanna be you
P**sy a** ni**a, I don't want your gonorrhea
P**sy a** ni**a, I don't want your gonorrhea
Yeah, I call it how I see you."

Digital Underground -- Same Song

Watch the official video here >

"Pull out my jimmie, time to get busy wit a Jenny
if it's good and plenty, don't you know
there I go, there I go, there I go
But I don't go nowhere without my jim hat
If I'm rappin, cause she's clappin’
then I'm strappin’ cause I'm smarter than that
then girlie maybe we can get along
Cutie after cutie, it's just the same old song."

Snoop Dogg feat. Dr. Dre -- Nuthin' But a G Thang

"And before me dig out a bitch I have ta' find a contraceptive
You never know she could be earnin' her man,
And learnin' her man, and at the same time burnin' her man
Now you know I ain't wit that shit, Lieutenant
Ain't no p**sy good enough to get burnt while I'm up in it
(yeah) Now that's realer than real-deal Holyfield
And now all you hookas and hoes know how I feel
Well if it's good enough to get broke off a proper chunk
I'll take a small piece of some of that funky stuff."

Boogie Down Productions -- Jimmy

Listen to the whole song here >

"Jimmy Hats are now in style
'Cause you can't trust a big butt and a smile
Some are dry and some lubricated
Many companies make and made it
So all you super ho’s, wear your hat
'Cause dripping Jimmies is straight up wack."

Ice Cube -- Look Who’s Burnin’

Listen to the whole song here >

"I went to the free clinic, it was filled to capacity
Now how bad can a piece of ass be?
Very bad, so I had to make the trip
and thank God, I didn't have the drips
I was there so a hoe couldn't gimme that
Just to get - twenty free jimmy hats."

Sean Paul -- Safe Sex

Listen to the whole song here >

"Me guh suh den sex is not what it used to be,
Belive me, it displease me
Nuff a dem a walk like dem hot but
When yuh connect di dot
Dem nuh easy dem nuh disease free."
